My interest in sculpture took place during a trip to Australia and New Zealand. The canoe designs I saw in New Zealand inspired me to take African art classes and Oceanic art at Indiana University. Upon making my own paper, I began to make canoes from tulip trees found in the woods. From this I went on to make large and small shelter structures. I enjoy the construction process, and like the small intimate scale of these forms. The spindle and triangle forms found in nature are well suited to the world around them. Harmony is something I strive for in these works.
