I began painting seriously in 1966 after a four year stint in the Air Force. Learning by doing, I attended classes at Indiana University Extension in Gary, Indiana. Three degrees and a couple of dozen teaching years later, I am still learning. I tried oils and watercolors, but I prefer acrylics. I like to work fast, and acrylics allow for quick changes and they lend themselves to spontaneity. I often begin my paintings by working from a photograph I've taken, and then I expand on it. Lately the images have become more abstract and color rich. All artists stand on the shoulders of many giants. My favorites are Van Gogh and Monet.
